Projects
From time to time I make things that aren't books. (Oh the horror!) Here are a few samples of some of the non-book items I've made.
Postcard Holder
I was flipping through the books at Chapters on bookbinding trying to decide if I wanted to buy them or not. I came across a postcard holder. I jotted a note down in my book to give it a try when I got home. I've since gone back to the store to wander through the book again. Mine looks /nothing/ like the one I saw originally. It's neat the way my concept of what a postcard holder should be is nothing like what the book thought it should be.
The leaves on the front cover are from my scarlet runner bean. The covers are Japanese paper, covered with a weak PVA/water mixture. I covered the inside with this mixture as well. In retrospect, this was a bad idea. The covers ended up warping in (paper warps toward the last side that has dried). Using a spray sealant would have been a better idea.
Photo Frame
This photo frame I made as part of the "Bookbinding I" course with CBBAG. The papers are all Japanese (and available through the JPP). The two photos were taken on vacation this summer. The cute guy on the left is my fiancé, Graig.
