Hinged Post Binding

Spine details

The spine covering was a bit of an after thought. I've seen similar designs on commercial products and like how it covers the uneven pages when the book is sitting on a shelf. Unlike the commercial version, this spine covering is not structural. It pulls out very easily. In theory once the number of pages is set (and the width of the book is determined) you could glue the edges and make it structural. Unfortunately the fabric has really bubbled (pulled away from its lining) along this strip. It's "ok" but not very professional looking. (Look at the finished book on the intro page to see what I mean.)

Instead of creating a slip case for the spine cover I could also have attached it to inside of the book and hooked it onto the posts. Fortunately I made the book the way I did as there was absolutely no extra room on the posts, and no extra time for me to find longer posts.
