About Strange Little Girl

Strange Little Girl is a bindery in Toronto, Canada. It is owned and operated by Emma Jane Hogbin (that's me).

About Emma

I'm also a web developer and college professor--I teach at the School of Media Studies at Humber College. I also work part-time at my cousin's paper store, The Japanese Paper Place. My dad supplies me with wood for my book covers and engravings (and also provides excellent critiques of my books), and my mom supplies me with customers and much of my binding equipment (most of which she used over 30 years ago as a bookbinder herself!). Not to be left out: my sister provides me with scrapbooking supplies and a very adorable niece and nephew. My fiance makes sure I stay up to date with pop culture (I am insufferably uncool). He's also learning to bind books and has converted a number of his softcover comics to hard cover bindings. You could almost say that my business is a family affair!

The domain name is from a Stranglers tune of the same name. I bought it years and years ago but I wasn't quite sure what to do with it at first. The week that I took my first bookbinding course I also went to see a Tori Amos concert where she performed a cover of Strange Little Girl. To cap it all off, I got a ride from a fellow classmate and he was playing the Stranglers in his truck. Some people don't like the domain name and that suits me just fine.

The updates are made with the "blogging" tool, Blosxom. Some tweaks are added by hand (like the list of all my books). The logo font was designed by Ray Larabie.
